Workout Buddy

Posted on 24. Dec, 2009 by in Gym

Having trouble sticking to the gym? Or just going at all? I highly recommend working out with either a trainer or a workout buddy (friend / family member).

When I first wanted to get back in shape I joined a gym and right away went with a trainer. I worked out with my trainer for about a year, and in that time he not only got me addicted to the gym, but he taught me how all the machines worked and how to properly workout. The only thing he didn’t teach me was how to eat better, thus during the training I only gained muscle and didn’t lose very much weight.

trainerI quit working out with him after not seeing much results (losing weight) and started working out with a friend of mine. After awhile and some research I finally figured out that in order to lose weight, I not only had to exercise, but I had to cut my calorie intake per day. After that it was easy to lose the weight.

Without getting into too much more about weight loss, just know it’s a good idea to workout while you diet. Diet alone can lose weight, but if you want to lose weight faster, you need to exercise. And it’s best to exercise with a workout buddy or trainer to keep you motivated!

So if you’re having trouble sticking to the gym.. find a friend and start pumping iron together!

Current Weight: 255

I have contemplated getting a trainer to learn how to lift weights. Besides that, I prefer working out alone. I am more consistent that way. But the advice of others I value highly.

I highly recommend a trainer or an experienced friend to workout with every once in awhile. Just to learn the different machines and workouts. I know when I first started going to the gym I would aimlessly go machine to machine not knowing what I was doing. After I got a trainer he taught me how ALL the machines worked, how to effectively use them and how I should workout weekly, etc. Not only that but he got me addicted to the gym and ever since I have been going. You’re addicted already, so that’s not a problem for you. But it’s worth it to get a trainer or experienced friend to go to the gym with to learn all the different machines / exercises you can do. At least if you start getting bored, get yourself a trainer and you won’t be bored anymore. :)

    Good luck,

To add I’m thinking about getting a trainer again just to have better workouts. At the moment I’m getting into a routine that isn’t as effective as doing something new everyday. :)

Hey, I found a running buddy on WannaBuddy.com. The site has thousands of parks and trails in a database that I can search by zip code, and a community of people who share my passion for running. I’ve seen people posts from people setting up workout buddies, too. Worth a try!
