Water is Good! Health Benifits of Water Vs. Soda
Posted on 16. Mar, 2010 by Jay in Weight Loss
So I have been drinking pretty much nothing but water for the past 6-months or so and though it was a HARD transition in the beginning, I’ve come to love water now!
The hardest part about switching from sodas to water was the sense of dry month when drinking nothing but water. I didn’t have that same feeling when I drank sodas all the time. But now I wake up ready to drink water, or I feel the need for water at times when before I tried to stay away from it. I remember a time where I made a rule never to buy water because I could get that anywhere. Instead I would buy sodas. I still try not to buy water.. now I just bring it with me. Basically everywhere I go I bring water with me. I just love sipping on it throughout the day.
I guess there are some health benefits to drinking nothing but water:
- It’s good for reducing hunger.
- It hydrates your skin, making you look younger.
- It helps combat headaches, fatigue and muscle spasms
- It helps maintain a healthy PH balance
- It helps keeps us ‘regular’.
Etc…
There are a lot of benefits to drinking plenty of water in a day. If you’re drinking sodas and other sugary drinks that contain caffeine in it then you may want to cut back a little because caffeine is a diuretic which causes you to lose water faster; making you even thirstier.
The reasons why I stop drinking sodas was because of the following:
- Acid in soda is very bad for your teeth.. I don’t want me teeth to rot away so that’s a big thing for me.
- Sodas have no nutrient value in them. They are a waste of 150 calories or whatever they are. I rather eat a sandwich or something then drink my calories away.
- I get headaches from diet sodas, and with regular sodas I crash about 30 minutes after I drink them. I feel tired and want to go to sleep.
- If I drank too much soda my heart would race and I would start to shake. The same thing happens when I drink a lot of monster energy drinks.
- Even after drinking 3-4 cans of soda in a day I STILL was thirsty.
- I’m pretty sure my body wasn’t very happy with me living off sodas 100% of the time.
So that’s pretty much why I switched from sodas and sugary drinks to water.
Water is Good.

I read the more water you drink the less your body feels like it needs to retain. Consuming water feeds on itself maybe. Soda is always the first thing to go when I start a diet. The processed sugar and whatnot is killer.

Maybe… I don’t feel as thirsty anymore but I still sip on water pretty much all day long.
I love it.

I cut out all but diet sodas when I began my plan, but I need to be more intentional about my water intake. I can do okay with water between meals, but when I eat, I still crave a sweet drink – even if it’s diet.

It’s a gradual process.. like someone trying to stop using crack. Once your addicted you can’t just stop cold turkey.. you have to take baby steps. For example you move on to diet soda. Then on to flavored non carbonated drinks. And then sugar free drinks… and then to water.

I’ve given up on soda’s as well. Although on Sunday I had five cans of Sprite Zero…first time in about two years! Back on the water now though.

Lol… soda makes me want to eat bad foods.. thus I stay away.
It’s a trigger really.

I never liked sodas much so cutting them out completely was an easy task. I can’t really remember the last time I had a soda.
On the other hand I absolutely love seltzer water. I have my own soda water maker and I drink that stuff by the liter. It must be a European thing…
