Never Say Never!
Posted on 01. May, 2010 by Jay.
My trainer has drilled a few things in my head.. one of the things he likes to say is “keep moving, and keep stretching”..
Keep moving! Keep stretching!
Trust me, I know to keep moving and to keep stretching after every set of exercises. Sometimes I want to catch me breath for a second and stand still, but nooOO! I hear in the background, “KEEP MOVING, KEEP STRETCHING!”.
Another thing he likes to say.. especially when I look at him weird after he shows me some new exercise, or he asks me to do something I don’t think I can do.. he says “just do it”.
Well, he actually doesn’t say that.. I first look at him weird.. then I say something like, “what the hell was that?” or “I can’t do that”, etc.
He says something to the the effect of “try it”, but in a snarky trainer form… and to my surprise 90% of the time I can do it! He says “never say never, I don’t want to ever hear you say you can’t do something”, blah blah, etc. But really he has a point. I sometime like to give up before even trying something new. I have to be pushed out of my comfort zone a lot of the time.
The other day he asked me to jump these stands that were about three to four feet high; it wasn’t much but to me it looked like a mountain. So I resisted for a second.. but then tried it. And to my surprise I was able to EASILY jump three sets of 15!
The moral of the story is to never say you can’t do something until you try it. I worst thing that can happen is fail, but every time you fail you gain a little for the next try.
I think trainers are worth it.

Snowball Effect?
Posted on 27. Apr, 2010 by Jay.
Interesting.. does eating better and exercising create a weigh loss snowball effect? I mean in terms of continuing to lose weight even though you may slack a little with the whole diet and exercise part?
I feel I have been slacking a little, yet I continue to lose weight dramatically. I’m at 209 pounds right now and the only thing I can think of the reason why, is because my sudden increase of caffeine which has helped me get stuff done.
I know caffeine dehydrates me and isn’t great in large quantities, but if it helps me get work done then it’s something I can live with. I only wish I didn’t drink a 20 ounce of regular coffee before my workout with my trainer yesterday. Man I was suffering the first 30 minutes of the workout. I felt as my heart was going to explode while doing jumping jacks! My trainer wasn’t happy I drank the coffee either; plus I forget to eat before the workout. That and with my focus drug which slightly increases my heart rate, it’s not a good combination before a working out.
Though caffeine has help me practically write a new book in just two days!
I may have to increase my calorie intake to 1500 calories a day instead of the 1400 I’m used to and continue with the 5 days a week in the gym.
OH! And since I have taking days off the past couple weeks; an average of 3-4 days off from the gym a week, I find I’m getting sore again! It seems my muscles repair during that down time, I get back in the gym to tear them up and I’m sore again which helps to build muscle!
I’m a beast!

Crazy Busy
Posted on 26. Apr, 2010 by Jay.
The more productive I become with the to-do list, the less time I tend to focus on this blog it seems. It’s just when I’m on a roll with something, I don’t like to stop until I’m done; that means all night marathons for days.
Right now I’m working on a mini guide (around 20 pages long) that could potentially make serious income for me in the future; so it’s pretty important to finish. I put aside 2-3 days to complete the project.
The only bad thing is I haven’t been to the gym in a couple days so I’m feeling a little like a crack addict who hasn’t had his fixed yet.
Luckily I workout with my trainer in about 13 hours from now and I KNOW he’s pissed at me for not going to a Yoga class he wanted me to try. He told me if I didn’t go he would be pissed. That basically means he’s going to again kick my ass in the gym.
The last workout I had with this guy, my shirt will literally 100% drenched in sweat. This guy had me doing nothing but leg exercises the entire time and that’s my achilles heel.
The guy is like a male Jillian Michaels … he enjoys torturing his clients. He told me it makes his day..
Why did I sign up for another 16-sessions? Doh!

Posted on 21. Apr, 2010 by Jay.
Sorry for not posting anything the past couple days; I’m getting heavily distracted by a couple hundred different things grabbing for my attention.
I have even slid a little on the exercise part of my weight loss goals; though I just came back from the gym a couple hours ago.
The problem is, I have a to-do list that is extremely hard to accomplish. I find that I’m often going around the difficult task and leaning more towards the 1-hour items to quickly accomplish something.
For example one of the items that won’t go away on my list is to copyright one of the books I’ve written. I don’t think it’ll take more then an hour to do online, but yet it’s been on my to-do list for over a month now.
Another item is to rewrite another book of mine.. which will probably take a week or two to do if I work non-stop.
One of the most important items on my to-do list which I have been trying to take care of the past couple days is to see a psychiatrist for my lack of drive and focus to do work. I have an appointment in a week from now.
By the way… is it me or is it hard to find a psychiatrist that doesn’t have the next couple months scheduled to the brim?
Well, let’s see if I can get something off my to-do list before I pass out tonight.
Cheers,

Breakfast of Champions
Posted on 18. Apr, 2010 by Jay.
Today I want to show you a very simple and delicious breakfast I like to eat. I eat something like this probably three times a week because it’s very easy to make, it only takes 10 to 15 minutes to put together and it’s healthy for you.
First I rinse off and dry strawberries and get ready to slice them up. Yes I use paper plates, I’m lazy. Strawberries are around 60 calories a cup.
Then I move over my favorite pan, spry it with cooking spray then throw in about a dozen cleaned sliced mushrooms. I usually buy the pre-sliced and ready to eat mushrooms (cheap). I let them brown for a few minutes and flip them over. Mushrooms are around 40 calories a cup.
Then I slice up the strawberries and get read for some deliciousness.
Yes I still use Splenda – it’s great in moderation. At this point I start chowing down on strawberries while the mushrooms are still browning.
Once the mushrooms are a good color.. usually 10 minutes of cooking..
I throw in 3 eggs (210 calories) and scramble them.
After a few minutes it’s chow time!
Mushrooms and eggs! It taste great, has tons of vitamins in it and it’s cheap and easy to make. Basically I use mushrooms as a bacon alternative. It’s not bacon but it does the job.
What do you like to eat for breakfast?

Weight Loss Challenge: Month 4 Report
Posted on 16. Apr, 2010 by Jay.
Opps, it seems I skipped right over the last months report of the new Weight Loss Challenge I started. This last month came to a close on the 13th of April. Basically my goal was to lose 12.66 pounds in the month. So how did I do?
I lost 14 pounds!
From March 13th to April 14th, I went from 228 pounds to 214 pounds! I’m surprised because when I first started out I wasn’t losing any weight even though I was pretty much working out every day. Then all of a sudden I started to lose weight again. I think the only real difference between this month and the past few months was that I’m starting to eat better foods and I’m not eating out as much. Instead of snacking on processed salty snacks for example, I went for more fruits and vegetables. Also I’ve started to take my protein intake more seriously; every day I workout I drink a protein shake. I talked to my trainer yesterday and he said I need to double that.. so I’m going to try.
So that’s pretty much it.. so much for plateauing.
Here are the last few monthly reports:
- 1st Month Report 18 Pounds Lost (Dec 7th – Jan 7th)
- 2nd Month Report 14 Pounds Lost (Jan 8th – Feb 7th)
- 3rd Month Report 8 Pounds Lost (Feb 8th – March 7th)
- 4th Month Report 14 Pounds Lost! (March 13th – April 14)
Total Weight Loss: 54-pounds in four months.
My goal weight is 190-pounds; and from the looks of it, it’ll take me two more months to get there! After that I plan on (trying) to bulk up!
Time for breakfast!
So what are you goals? And how do you plan on getting there?

Fast Food Shopping
Posted on 15. Apr, 2010 by Jay.
No, I’m not talking about fast food in the traditional sense. I’m talking about going to the grocery store and finding tons and tons of bad foods to eat.
It seems the more I attempt to eat healthy the more I see how much crap food we’re surround with. There are still good foods to be had, but it’s really hard to find these days. Now everything comes in a package and is loaded with tons of calories, fats, sugars and salt. I have to emphasize the salt, because it seems all processed foods have a ton of this.
Even the so called healthy foods that are processed can be just as bad for you.
For the most part I try and stay on the outside perimeter of food stores. Where they have the fruits, vegetables, meats and dairy. The meat still ins’t the best because it has chemicals in them that cause cancers. Dairy foods are good, but watch out for the colorful packaging and stuff with too many ingredients in them. I load up on fruits and vegetables though, those are great for you.
The rest of the food is pretty much crap. Sure I get condiments, can foods (tons of salt), and snacks (whole grain bars, etc). Though I pass up the chips aisle for sure and really try not to buy anything off the other aisles. I like frozen vegs, so I load up on those, but that’s pretty much it from the frozen food aisle. The rest of the aisles are nothing but processed foods.
That’s about 80% of the store, nothing but foods people should eat less of.
Hmm, now that I think about it.. I should probably shop somewhere else.
Where do you guys get the good foods?

Taxes Time & Endorphins
Posted on 14. Apr, 2010 by Jay.
It’s 7 AM, and I have just come back from the gym after working all night long to finish my taxes for last year. It took several days to complete but I’m finally done and ready to move on to the next item on my to-do list.
As I went though my receipts for the last seven years and organized them. I felt a lot of emotions, some happy and others angry. I found old pay stubs that showed what I made in two weeks, I make in a day now (a lot of the time without even waking up). I found that the vehicles I owned were HUGE expenses to me. I could of bought a house for the amount of money I spent on my cars. I mean there were dozens of $1000+ receipts just for paint jobs.
Then there was the infamous food folders that I went though. I probably had a thousand fast food receipts for just 2005 through 2007. I also went though credit card statements where it showed I went to fast food places several times in a day. I saw one day where I went to Sonic THREE times in one day!
I guess that makes sense when you look at my Stages of Fatness pictures.
Towards more recent years I saw the fast food receipts start to tapper off. This year I think there were only a few receipts that I had. I’ve really changed a lot in such a short period of time.
* takes a drink of isopure
Even though I’m pretty tired right now, I feel happy for accomplishing a lot of short and long terms goals I set for myself. I’ve lost a good amount of weight and continue to do so. I don’t eat fast foods anymore, drink sodas, eat chips, etc. I try and stay away from salt. I focus on eating more fruits and vegetables. I’m learning more about how foods and physical activity effect emotions. I’m more aware of addictive foods, foods that make you feel good but are bad for you.. just anything that can negatively effect you I’m more aware of it now. Did you know endorphins are addicting?
I’m running on an endorphins since coming back from the gym. At times I feel I’m addicted to the gym.. but that’s not necessarily a bad thing is it?
Well, the post office opens in 10 minutes and I want to get there before the masses start to line up.
Sigh.. I like endorphins..
