Long Term Weight Loss Goal Reached!

Posted on 08. Jun, 2010 by in Challenge +

I have been on a weight loss journey for a couple years now, my heaviest weight was 336 pounds. Only recently have I decided to take things more seriously and start this blog to help keep me accountable. The blog started 11/30/2009, and December 7th, 2009 (weighing 268 pounds), I decided to start my first weight loss challenge.

Starting the blog my initial goal was to lose 40-50 pounds in three months, and I pretty much met that goal by losing 39 pounds, down to 229 pounds.  Then I wanted to reach 190 pounds as my second weight loss challenge. I started the challenge March 13th and gave myself three months to lose the weight, an average of 12.66 pounds a month. Today I weighed in at 190.5 pounds! I reached my goal!

I love setting something in stone (mentally), and accomplishing it.

I have been mentally established, and documented to keep me at my word…

From weighing 268 pounds when I started this blog and now today at 190 pounds, the changes are so vast I can’t really explain it. It’s even a bigger difference if I take into account my weight a couple years ago at 336 pounds. It still boggles my mind that I used to be over 300 pounds, and how life was at that time. It was horrible…

What sucked about being 300+ pounds:

  • It was really hard to find clothes that fit me..
  • Doing any physical work was very tiring
  • I couldn’t run more then 30 seconds at a time
  • Knee and back problems
  • People seem to stare at the fat person in the room
  • People don’t take you seriously at first meeting you
  • Girls (for guys) don’t seem to notice you
  • Your skin is bad
  • Your general health is horrible (all your organs are stressed, especially your heart)
  • You don’t fit well in small cars
  • Flying coach on air planes sucks!!!
  • You’re constantly hot
  • You are made fun off because of being fat (yeah that’s what we need on top of everything else)
  • You eat crap all day just because, and it makes you feel bad mentally and physically
  • Lack of exercise + eating crap makes you miserable
  • Lots of other health problems overtime.. for example diabetes (thankfully not an issue with me)
  • The list can go on forever… being obese, over 300+ pounds is not fun at all

What’s awesome about losing the weight and being below 200 pounds:

  • You can buy the clothes you want to buy just about anywhere
  • Physical work is a lot easier to do, you’re not huffing and puffing anymore
  • I can run a mile in 9 minutes now (not something I’m striving for, but I can do it!)
  • I have no more knee or back problems
  • People (girls), stare but in a good way.. I get lots of complements (seriously), it’s different
  • People treat me like a person now… and are interested in what I have to say
  • Girls seem happier around me and much more interested.. Lol
  • My skin is like night and day from where I was a couple years ago.. I never noticed until looking back at old pictures
  • I feel I’m pretty much in the best health in my life right now..
  • Small cars… pfft.. bring them on. I’m actually thinking about getting a sports bike soon.
  • I flew coach when I went to Vegas last month.. and I was so surprised I easily fit in the seat plus I had extra room.. so amazing
  • I’m still hot at times, but it’s only because it’s 100 degrees outside
  • No one even mentions my weight anymore, no one believes when I tell them I’ve lost over 100 pounds
  • I eat healthy foods now, and it actually makes me feel good. I notice how I feel when I eat something bad compared to something good
  • I exercise to feel good now, it’s just that spike of good feelings that’s addicting
  • My health is great now, no issues what so ever
  • And tons of other benefits that can go on forever.. losing the weight, and being physically fit is the best feeling.

So what’s next?

Now I want to build muscle as my main goal, but at the same time continue to lose a little more weight. I don’t know the exact weight I want to reach yet, I’m very happy reaching 190 pounds, but I feel I have a little more to go. In the long run though I will be trying to turn whatever fat I have left into muscle. It would be great to get down to 10% body fat!

So my long term goal and main priority in life for the last 7 months has finally been met! You can see my goals on the right side of the blog, “JayLoss Fitness Goals“. I’m adding more goals as time goes by, I guess I can check off “Reach Goal Weight of 190 Pounds” now. :)

Jay,
Current Weight: 190 lbs!
Total Weight Loss: 146 lbs
All Time High: 336 lbs.
Goal Weight: 190 lbs.

Thanks so much Greg, new goals are in order, I gotta break out a pen a paper to see what I want to do.

I think I should focus more on BMI now, rather then just what the scale says. I should probably go shopping soon for a BMI scale”.

Impressive, Jay! Man, that’s SO MUCH weight! I hadn’t even thought about skin conditions. You’ve overcome a tremendous amount. You’re on a roll. May as well go for the 10% body fat. That’s more or less what I’m doing, as long as it’s summer. In September I think I’ll start muscling more. Great work man!!

Thanks David, it’s been a life change that’s for sure.

I think 10% body fat would be something good to aim for. I think it’s possible. :)

I’ll do some research and see if it’s the way to go.

      Cheers,

HOORAY TO REACHING YOUR GOAL! That’s awesome. I’m still quite a ways from my goal but you’re an inspiration. I’m glad girls stare with interest now. That’s always an added perk huh?

And kudos to know knee or back pain. I’ve forgotten how miserable my body was at 263. It was just…not liking the extra weight. I can’t imagine carrying all that weight on me now.

So high five to both of us for getting our lives back together and really living.

Thanks a lot Jess, I really appreciate it. :)

And you’re coming a long way too, I still can’t believe you ran as much as you did the other day… I can’t do that. Not yet at least.. but I can lift weights. :p

      Cheers!
