Cardio for Weight Loss?

Posted on 24. Feb, 2010 by in Gym

I think deep down I always knew cardio was great for weight loss, but I still focused primarily on strength training for a long time. It wasn’t until I was watching ‘The Biggest Loser’ the other day when trainer Jillian was talking about ‘cardio cardio cardio’ for weight loss. She emphasized it so much as a key to losing weight that I guess it stuck with me. That and of course diet.

So I think from now on I’ll do more cardio with my workouts. Before I would normally do 10-20 minutes of cardio.. either on the treadmill or elliptical machine. I’m going to up it to around 30 minutes from now on.

Since I started with more cardio I have noticed a slight increase of weight loss. I say slight because I have only had 30 minute cardio sessions for about a week now.

Oh and by the way my trainer doesn’t want me to workout everyday like I said I wanted to. He said six days a week is fine, but that I needed a rest one day.. so I guess the rest day will have to be something less physical like yard work or something.

I think I beat the plateau! Yay!

I’ve never like cardio – but I’ve come to enjoy it a bit more since working with my trainer on it. This week, I’m supposed to up my cardio to 50 minutes, 4x/week, which I never would have done on my own! You have to make it a game almost to get through it (how much of it can I jog? Can I go 2 more minutes, etc.).

Love cardio, especially running and the ARC Trainer.

Still don’t like strength training, but it’s a necessary evil, so I do it.

Way to beat the plateau. You’re a weight loss machine.

Exercise is a damaging activity, and the body has to have time to repair from that. That’s how I’ve justified the day off.

Last night on the treadmill I realized what I used to think about exercise — that it was worthless for weight loss. My problem was really that my eating was out of control and I was not consistent with exercise at all. I expected too much out of a single workout. It’s really a lifestyle of regular exercise that has to happen. And first, right eating. All habitually. Who’d have thought.

Cardio is all I do, I enjoy it but I actually kinda wish I did more strength training!

I think a days of is good too.. I usually work out 6/7 days a week.. And mostly one day of the week I’m so pooped I can’t bother going to the gym.
